Lagos Motorcyclist Frequently Molests Six-year-old Daughter

Published

on

A Lagos-based commercial motorcyclist(Okada Rider) Amarachi Chukwuneke, 43, was arrested by the police at the Festac Division for reportedly sexually molesting his six-year-old daughter.

The suspect had separated from his wife and the victim, together with her two siblings, lived with him.

It was learnt that the neighbour had observed the girl walking into the compound with uneasiness while returning from school on November 5, 2019.

The woman was said to have asked the minor the cause of her condition, but she was initially reluctant to speak up.

After the Good Samaritan persuaded her, she reportedly opened up, alleging that her father inserted his finger in her private parts and had sex with her.

Alarmed by the revelation, it was gathered that neighbours confronted Chukwuneke alongside with the child, who repeated the claim in the father’s presence.

The case was reported at the Festac Police Division, and the father was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Unit at the police headquarters in Ikeja which charged him with defilement.

“On November 5, 2019, when the girl returned from school, a neighbour noticed that something was wrong with the way she was walking and asked her what was wrong. After persuading her, she said it was her father who touched her bumbum (private parts). She said the father had been having sex with her,” a source said.

In her statement, the victim reportedly gave a graphic description of how her father molested her.

She stated, “My brothers and I live with our daddy, but we are always with our neighbour because my daddy does not give us food. Anytime we sleep, my father would touch my bumbum (private parts) and put his finger inside my bumbum. One day, he put the thing he uses to pee (urinate) inside my bumbum. I cried that day because blood came out, and my daddy used water to wash my bumbum and begged me not to cry and that I should not tell anybody.”

Chukwuneke, who denied the allegation, said his daughter had complained to him some months earlier that she was feeling pains in her private parts.

He said he checked and saw that she was discharging some fluid, adding that he bought some drugs for her to use.

He added, “I got married in 2012, and we are blessed with three children. In June 2018, my wife left me because she got pregnant for another man in my hometown in Imo State.

“In August 2018, I travelled to the village and brought my children with me to Lagos. They were living with me until the girl complained to me that her bumbum was paining her.

“After I checked, I realised some fluid was coming out of her private parts. After that, I went to see a chemist woman who gave me drugs. After she used the medication, it stopped. Later on, she complained about the same issue to me. I went to a nurse who also gave me some drugs for which I paid N500. She told me to buy a particular drug that will finally stop the symptom.

“On November 4, 2019, my daughter came to me again and said she was feeling pains in her private parts. I tried to look for money to buy drugs for her. The following day when I returned from where I went to get some money, I met some neighbours with her. They said my daughter told them someone had been having sex with her.

“My daughter was asked who had sex with her, and she said I was the one. When I wanted to ask her the same question, my neighbours refused. That was how I was brought to the police station. I did not have any sexual intercourse with my daughter.”

A police prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, subsequently brought Chukwuneke before an Ogba magistrates’ court on one count of defilement.

The charge read, “That you, Amarachi Chukwuneke, on November 4, 2019, at 9 pm, at Amuwo Odofin, Festac, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully defile a six-year-old girl by having sexual intercourse with her, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

The defendant’s plea was not taken by the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. Sile-Amzat, who ruled that he should be remanded in prison while the case file should be sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The case was adjourned till February 27, 2020.

Man Video-calling His Girlfriend gets Crushed by a Car

Published

on

On Wednesday, a 26-year-old man, Olajide Asade, was crushed to death by a commercial car, while he was making a video call to his girlfriend at the Adedero village on the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway.

The accident involved a Honda Odyssey car with number plate AAA 589 FV, which was conveying crates of eggs.

It was gathered that the deceased was reportedly making a video call to his girlfriend while crossing the road when the accident occurred.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the deceased and his brother boarded a car from the Kuto motor park in Abeokuta, but the vehicle developed a mechanical fault on the road.

The eyewitness said while the other passengers were standing by the roadside waiting for the driver to repair the vehicle, the deceased reportedly concentrated on the video call.

The deceased’s brother, Azeez, said they were both travelling to their mother’s residence in the Ajah area of Lagos State.

Azeez confirmed that his brother had been making a video call to his girlfriend since they took off from Kuto in Abeokuta.

He added that they left their apartment at Ijoga in Abeokuta very early in the morning to embark on the journey.

Azeez maintained that the driver of the car, who hit Olajide, was on a normal speed.

The driver, whose car hit the deceased, Bolaji Balogun, said Olajide was the one who bumped into his vehicle.

Balogun, an employee of an agro firm, said he was going to the Obasanjo Farm to purchase crates of eggs for his company.

The driver stated that the deceased had already got to the front of his car before he could apply the brake.

Confirming the crash, the Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said there were two male occupants in the vehicle that killed Olajide.

He stated, “There is a road diversion along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu interchange due to the ongoing reconstruction; the deceased probably assumed it would be better and safer for him to cross to the other side, where road reconstruction is ongoing.

“The man, while crossing back to the other side of the road, was making a video call and was oblivious to the fact that a vehicle was coming from the Sagamu end to Abeokuta.

“The vehicle, a Honda Odyssey, hit him and he died on the spot.

“His corpse has been deposited in the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, while the driver of the Honda Odyssey and the vehicle are now at the state Motor Traffic Division, Ibara, Abeokuta.”

60 Northern Travellers Intercepted in a Cow-filled Truck at Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Published

on

On Monday, several security outfits intercepted about 60 men hiding in a Lagos-bound truck filled with cows at the Berger end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

It was gathered that the travellers, who reportedly came from Zamfara and neighbouring states, were heading for the Agege area of Lagos.

It was learnt that some of the men jumped down from the truck and fled on sighting the personnel of the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Enforcement Unit), the Rapid Respond Squad, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Vehicle Inspection Officers and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps at the boundary between both states.

The security personnel, however, denied them access into the state and turned them back.

The motor boy, who accompanied the truck from Zamfara State, Kabiru Haruna, said the cows were meant to be delivered to an abattoir in Agege and expressed surprise that the security agents stopped them.

He said, “We left Zamfara around 6 pm on Sunday, but not all of us here are from Zamfara State. Some are from Sokoto, Kano and Kebbi states. I am the motor boy for the truck, and I followed it from Zamfara down to where we are currently.

“We want to deliver the cows to an abattoir in Agege. I can’t really say the exact time we were stopped because I did not take note of the time. I don’t know why we were stopped.”

The truck driver was asked to go back to the point of take off after most of the fleeing men had regrouped at the pin-down point in Berger.

Confirming the incident to one of our correspondents, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said the men could not be allowed into the state.

He stated, “Forty-two men from Zamfara State hid in a truck and were intercepted at the Berger end of the expressway. The law is very clear; if you’re escorting a vehicle conveying food items, you must not be more than seven, but these people violated the law, and they were turned back.

“We have been searching all vehicles and all food items thoroughly to be sure that nobody is being smuggled into the state and this has helped us. We have sent the truck back; it cannot come into the state.”
